Signs and tests
  • Decreased breath sounds in the lung
  • Crackles (rales) in the infected lung detected by stethoscope
  • Chest x-ray
  • CT scan
  • Sputum stain and culture
  • Bronchial alveolar lavage - fluid is sent for stain and culture
  • Pleural fluid culture and stain
  • Bronchoscopy
