Symptoms

The newborn may have:

  • Yellow skin (jaundice)
  • Yellow eyes (icterus)
  • Lethargy

If untreated, seizures and neurologic problems (kernicterus) may develop.


Signs and tests

Blood tests for bilirubin levels can identify the severity of the jaundice.
