Definition

Enzyme markers are tests for specific enzyme activity in the body. Diseases can cause enzymes to stop functioning, or be less active. Enzyme marker tests combine an enzyme with its substrate and monitor the output. (The substrate is the substance being changed by the enzyme.) Results of the tests are reported as a percentage of normal enzyme activity.
