Normal Values
  • negative: less than 5% hemolysis (red blood cell breakdown)
  • positive: greater than 10% hemolysis

What abnormal results mean
  • paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH)
  • autoimmune hemolytic anemias and leukemia may give false positive result
