Special considerations Your doctor may suggest an ACTH test if your level is greater than 200 ng/dL but less than 800 ng/dL. This test is sensitive to circadian rhythms (the natural highs-and-lows that the body experiences during a day). Veins and arteries vary in size from one patient to another and from one side of the body to the other. Obtaining a blood sample from some people may be more difficult than from others.
