Risk for any surgery include:

  • Bleeding
  • Infection

Risks for microfracture include:

  • Increased stiffness of the knee bone
  • Cartilage breakdown. The new fibrocartilage created by microfracture surgery is less durable than the body’s original cartilage, and can break down after a few years.
