Holistic Healing and Health flourish with the simple tool of awareness. For instance:
A few days ago while giving a Reiki treatment to a friend, my throat started to tickle and tighten up. I sneezed a few times and my nose started to run. I felt embarrassed and could barely focus on the treatment.
I stopped to reflect on what I needed. I realized I was cold and anxious, both sensations I had ignored earlier. I was anxious because we talked so much earlier that there wasn’t enough time for a full treatment. My concern for not having enough time distracted me from being present during the time that we did have.
I took a few deep breaths, and breathed into the tight spot in my throat. Then I remembered to use the meditation technique of bringing awareness to my breath to return to my true nature.
Ah! I now was calm, centered, and able to return my full attention to my friend’s treatment.
How Awareness Grows Holistic Healing and Health
My physical symptoms— throat tightness and tickling, sneezing, runny nose—were signs that I was out of balance. My body was chilled, my mind anxious, and my spirit disconnected from being present for my friend. I had unmet needs that needed attention.
My wholeness was disrupted: physically, I needed to put on my sweater to warm up; mentally, I needed to let go of my worry and relax; spiritually, I needed to calm down, know that I was OK, and return to my true nature.
At first, I ignored these symptoms, but it only made them stronger. They subsided when I shined the light of awareness on them and addressed what I needed.
The word “heal” comes from an old English word “healen” meaning to make whole. Healing is honoring and holding in integrity your wholeness—body, mind, and spirit.
Holistic healing and health is a process of discovery.
How many times have you become ill or injured, then realized that you ignored early warning signs that it was coming? Perhaps you even recognized that if you had addressed these signs earlier you probably would not have become ill or injured.
Bottom Line
Natural healing—like life—is not an event that happens and you are done. It is a process of becoming more aware—more conscious. It’s a process of learning about yourself and the subtle signs and symptoms that indicate you are out of balance.
Holistic healing and health is investing in the full expression of your self: body, mind, and spirit.
